Why Apply to the KU Honors Program?

**To request a brochure, please e-mail your name and mailing address to honors@ku.edu with the subject line "Brochure Request".

1 The program offers an array of high quality honors courses. These courses are typically smaller, taught by KU faculty and are discussion and research oriented. Most honors courses fulfill graduation and major requirements.
2 Students in the Honors Program have access to priority enrollment. Priority enrollment allows Honors Program students to enroll first each semester and reduces the scheduling challenges faced by the many Honors Program students who are pursuing dual majors/degrees.
3 The program offers specialized honors advising. A majority of students in the Honors Program are advised by either the Honors Program professional staff or faculty in their major department (some professional schools additionally require their students to meet with advisors in that school). One essential component of honors advising is helping students find learning experiences outside the classroom to supplement their course work.
4 The Honors Program encourages Honors students to participate in research, study abroad, cultural and social activities and community service. Many of these opportunities are listed on this website or in the weekly e-mail (downloadable from the site).
5 Nunemaker Center (across the street from Templin at 15th and Engel Road) houses the Honors Program. Nunemaker has classrooms, conference rooms, meeting and study areas, and a student kitchen. Nunemaker offers wireless internet for students and is open days and evenings.
6 The Honors Program has five full-time staff members, five faculty fellows and a graduate program assistant available between the hours of 8 am and 5 pm Monday through Friday in Nunemaker Center. Honors Program students are encouraged to meet with the staff and faculty fellows with questions about academics, opportunities, or any other issues the student would like to discuss.
