Harry S. Truman Scholarship
For students pursuing careers in public service.
  • Students are nominated early in the fall of the junior (third) year. "Junior" here means a student who plans to continue full-time undergraduate study and who expects to receive a baccalaureate degree between December 2008 and August 2009, or a student in his or her third year of collegiate study who expects to graduate during the 2007-2008 academic year.

  • The scholarship provides up to $30,000 for graduate school.

  • Applicants must have a demonstrated record of public/community or government service at the time of their application.

  • Students must receive a KU nomination to compete nationally.

  • KU may nominate up to four students.

  • Approximately 70-75 students nationwide receive scholarships each year.

  • Information Meeting for interested students at all levels:
    Thursday, September 27 at 7 p.m. in Nunemaker Center.

  • Local Deadline (pre-application for KU nomination):
    Tuesday, October 23 (bring or mail to Nunemaker Center).

  • Interviews the week of November 5 (tentative) for students selected after first screening.

  • National deadline for those selected as KU nominees:
    Tuesday, February 5, 2008.
