Barry M. Goldwater Scholarship
For students pursuing research careers in the natural sciences, mathematics and engineering.
  • Students can apply during their sophomore or junior year, but junior year is recommended. ("Junior" here means a student who plans to continue full-time undergraduate study and who expects to receive a baccalaureate degree between December 2010 and August 2011, or a student in his or her third year of collegiate study who expects to graduate during the 2009-2010 academic year.)

  • The scholarship provides up to $7500 annually for 1-2 years for tuition, fees, books, and room and board.

  • Students need research experience and a very high gpa (usually 3.8 or higher) to compete.

  • Students must receive a KU nomination to compete nationally.

  • KU is allowed to nominate four students.

  • Up to 300 scholarships are awarded nationwide.

  • Information meeting for all interested students at all levels: Wednesday, October 28, 2009 at 6:30 p.m. in Nunemaker Center

  • Local deadline: (pre-application for KU nomination) Monday, Nov. 16, 2009 by 4 p.m. (turn in at Nunemaker Center front desk)

  • National deadline for those selected as KU nominees: January 30, 2010
