To remain academically eligible to be in the Honors Program, students must maintain a grade point average of 3.25 in courses taken at KU. Honors Program staff members are available to discuss academic schedules or any issues a student might have at KU.
Students are encouraged to check the university's offerings of honors courses each semester and enroll in honors courses whenever possible. Honors advisers will assist students in selecting honors classes and in successfully completing the Honors Program.
Many students choose to work on research projects or apply for scholarships, internships, or fellowships with the help of their honors advisor, faculty members in their major departments, and Honors Program staff.
Each year, more than sixty awards are available to undergraduates for original research projects supervised by KU faculty. Students can compete to receive up to $3000 to fund research projects.
The weekly e-mail the Honors Program staff sends to honors students contains current information on internships, volunteer opportunities, and activities outside the classroom that enrich students' overall educational experiences.
Students are required to take a 1 credit hour tutorial, a minimum of six honors courses while they study at the university PLUS have at least one experience involving either research, study abroad, an internship, or community service, for a total of eight Honors units in some combination. For the official interpretation of these guidelines, visit with someone at Nunemaker Center or check the web page (http://www.honors.ku.edu/graduating.shtml).
Stay connected! The Honors Program communicates most of its information through e-mail. Register an e-mail with KU and use it. Watch for weekly e-mails from the program's staff.
Honors students actively pursue the strongest educational experience they can while at the University of Kansas. In and out of the classroom, the opportunities are boundless.
