The College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, in conjunction with the J. M. Young Scholarship Fund, established the J.M. Young Opportunity Fund during the spring of 1996. The Opportunity Fund provides undergraduates in the college of Liberal Arts and Sciences with grants up to $300 to $500 to attend academic and professional conferences or to conduct research away from the Lawrence campus. The award was established in honor of J. Michael Young, former professor of philosophy and Director of the University of Kansas Honors Program from 1990 to 1995. Professor Young was an avid supporter of undergraduate research during his tenure at the university.
