The Honors Program at the University of Kansas, in conjunction with The Commons, has launched a University Lecture Series for the Spring 2008 semester. The Commons is a partnership among the Biodiversity Institute, the Hall Center for the Humanities, and the Spencer Museum of Art, which fosters the exploration of the intersection of nature and culture across the sciences, arts, and humanities.
The first topic selected for the University Lecture Series is global climate change. This topic will dovetail with the introduction of a new Commons course for Honors Program students, taught in Spring 2008 by Bryan Young, associate professor of Civil, Environmental, and Architectural Engineering. Students enrolled in this course will attend the University Lecture Series; however, the goal is for all programs in the series to attract a diverse audience from inside and outside the University.
