The mission of the University Honors Program is to provide enriched educational opportunities for the academically most talented, promising and motivated undergraduate students at the University of Kansas. These opportunities are provided primarily by means of special honors courses, classes, programs and tutorials and individual advising. The mission, therefore, includes working with departments, schools and individual faculty members in arranging for appropriate honor courses and tutorials, providing advice and feedback to those offering these courses and tutorials, and providing information about, and encouraging participation in, a variety of non-classroom educational activities, including departmental honors programs, undergraduate research, study abroad, community service, off-campus internships, national and local scholarship competitions, and in-house projects, programs and events. The mission includes participation in the identification of qualified students for membership in the program, for a variety of scholarship competitions and for various awards and recognitions. This mission includes informing, advising and providing assistance to those students applying for certain national scholarship competitions, as well as coordinating many local scholarship competitions and the awarding of certain recognitions.
